Setup Instructions for the Unlimited Plan - Windows Me

Setting up Netscape Dial-Up Internet on your Windows Me Computer

Note: These instructions apply to the Unlimited Plan only. If you are a Netscape Online Accelerated Plan subscriber, you need to install software on your computer that speeds up web surfing up to 19x faster*. Visit the download page to get the Netscape web acceleration software.

There are a few ways to set up you dial-up Internet connection in Windows Me. The easiest way is to use a Windows program called Dial-up Networking.


Step 1:

To access this program with Windows Me, click Start, Settings, then click Dial-up Networking.




Step 2:

Click Make New Connection. A setup wizard will appear on the first screen. This first screen welcomes you the first time you open Dial-Up Networking. You may not see it if this isn’t your first time using Dial-up Networking. Click Next to continue.




Step 3:

Enter Netscape Internet Service in the next window and ensure that your computer’s modem appears in the drop-down list. Ensure that your computer's modem appears under the device option.




Step 4:

Now enter the local access number you were provided when you set up your Netscape Internet Service account. You should leave the area code field blank.

If you have local ten-digit (with area code) dialing in your area, we suggest entering the entire ten digit number in the Telephone number (leaving the area code box blank).

If you need to dial 9 or another number to get a dial-tone, enter 9 with a comma after it and then the local access number.

Choose Canada from the Country drop down menu. Click Next to continue.




Step 5:

Click Finish.




Step 6:

You may have to close and reopen the Dial-up Networking window to see the new connection you created. You should see the Netscape Internet Service option.



You may want to create a shortcut on your desktop so that you can easily access the Internet. Right-click on the Netscape Online connection.



A window will pop up to tell you that you can't create a shortcut here. Click Yes to place the shortcut on your desktop.




Step 7:

To access your account for the first time, double-click on the Netscape Internet Service icon from either your desktop of the Dial-up Networking window. A new window will open. Enter your Netscape Username (username@netscape.ca) and password that you set up at registration. Ensure that the local access telephone number is correct.

Then press Connect to have your modem connect to the Internet.
